Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class was introduced on September 17, 2008, and important amendments were made to eligibility criteria in January 2013. Generally, the Class is open to:

  • Those who plan to live outside the province of Quebec; and
  • Those who have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before you apply; and
  • Those who have gained work experience in Canada with the proper authorization; and
  • Those who apply while working in Canada or within one year of leaving your job in Canada; and
  • Those who meet the required language levels needed for your job, for each language ability (speaking, reading, writing, and listening).

The applicants must have carried out work outlined in the Skill Type O Management Occupations or Skill Level A or B Professional, Skilled or Trades Occupations of the National Occupational Classification Matrix.

Benefits Of The Canadian Experience Class

Applicants under the Canadian Experience Class do not have to pass an immigration point system assessment. They only need to show that they have completed the minimum number of years of work in Canada, and that they speak English or French at a proficiency level that corresponds to their skill level. Further, applications under this class are processed relatively quickly, at 12 - 14 months from date of filing.
