IT Worker (Software Professional) Work Permits

Pursuant to the Information Technology Workers Pilot Project (also known as the Software Pilot Program), the government has exempted Canadian employers from seeking the requisite LMO for IT specialists in seven designated occupations. Applications for temporary work permits for employees meeting the requirements of any of these seven occupations are processed very quickly by the Canadian Visa Offices outside of Canada.

Do You Qualify?

In order to qualify for a work permit under the IT Workers Pilot Program, applicants must have a post-secondary education in an IT discipline and a minimum two years of experience working with tools and technical environments that have been determined to be essential to the IT occupation. In addition, the applicant must have a job offer in one of the following occupations:

  • Senior Animation Effects Editor
  • Embedded Systems Software Designer
  • MIS Software Designer
  • Multimedia Software Developer
  • Software Developer—Services
  • Software Products Developer
  • Telecommunications Software Designer

Specific academic and employment experience criteria are outlined under each of the seven categories above, as well as minimum salary requirements.
